Christmas Craft of the Day

Make Christmas Sponges

Here's what you'll need.

White paper
Scissors
Dry sponge
Ballpoint pen
Water colors (red & green)

Instructions
1) Draw a shape on white paper. A chunky tree, a snowman, or an ornament work well. Make sure it is a large, blocky shape as this will become your sponge.

2) Cut out and place the sketch on a dry sponge (one with tiny holes in the sponge are the best).

3) Then trace the pattern with your ballpoint pen and cut out the shape.

4) Dip the sponge in paint, squeeze excess paint out and blot onto either plain white or solid colored wrapping paper.

Note: You can stamp each sponge several times before re-dipping in the paint. This even dresses up plain newspaper wrapping.

Super Easy Christmas Swirl Brownies

Ingredients:

1 package cake style brownie mix
1/ teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 cup cream
1 package of cream cheese
1/3 cup sugar
1 bag M&Ms holiday edition

Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, cream the sugar and cream cheese until fluffy. Add the egg, cream and vanilla extra. Mix well and set aside.

Prepare the brownie mix according to instructions. Like a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and then school 2/3 of the batter into the pan. Place ½ cup of the M&Ms over the brownie batter. Then spoon the cream cheese mixture over the M&Ms and batter. And finally scoop the remaining brownie mixture over that. Using the tip of a knife swirl the mixture for a marbled effect.

Bake for approximately 45 minutes at 350F until baked through but still moist (do not overbake). Cool before cutting into squares.

Christmas Traditions

Have a Cookie Swap

A Christmas cookie swap is as simple as it sounds. Friends gather together at another friend’s home, bringing their favorite baked cookies on a platter or tray. All the platters and trays are put on a table. The friends gather around the table; taking take two or three cookies from each dish or platter, to take home. This is the cookie swap. What makes this particular event so wonderful is each person may have a story about the cookies, i.e., where the recipe came from; anecdotes about preparing the cookies, etc.
